LASTER are stylistically a jack in the box and the same is true for the fourth album of the Dutch trio. Every attempt to cram "Andermans Mijne" into any given pigeon-hole" will be greeted with the next track jumping out again with a delighted devilish grin and a hearty slap on the wrist. On "Andermans Mijne", LASTER continue their subversive work to experiment and to constantly warp and widen the framework of extreme metal with elements of indie and jazz rock, shoegaze and art pop, as well as post-black metal and whatever else the Dutch deem fit for purpose. Despite all complexity, the result is surprisingly stringent and to the point – at times even catchy and groovy. Since their formation in the old Dutch university city of Utrecht in 2012, LASTER have shifted from a comparatively 'romantic' take on blackish avant-garde metal infused with art-rock dissonance towards an even more experimental approach, and somewhat back again. Their 2014 debut album "De verste verte is hier" playfully deconstructed and re-arranged metal song structures. Their sophomore full-length "Ons vrije fatum" (2017) went several steps further and to high critical acclaim as exemplified by an "album of the month" title in the UK magazine Terrorizer. The genre-benders' third album "Het Wassen Oog" has been compared with a sonic equivalent of dark movies by legendary director Andrey Tarkovsky. The authentic character of LASTER's music is also reflected in the band's lyrical and visual expression regarding their art inspired album covers and live performance with their characteristic humanoid half masks. They can be easily singled out from the myriad of hood wearing acts these days. With "Andermans Mijne", LASTER deliver a bold fourth chapter of their ongoing story of a labyrinthian tale full of surprising twists, multiple layers, and fascinating new ideas.
On the album, the mysterious Dutchmen create multi-layered soundscapes within a black metal frame that would suit both classical paintings and ugly faces like those the musicians display with their masks when appearing in public. With four "almost dancy" songs (Echoes & Dust) clocking in at approximately 45 minutes, "De Verste Verte Is Hier" is re-released as Digipak CD.

Since their formation in 2012, Laster evolved into a magnificent and untamable beast in the realm of avantgarde and post black metal. The Dutch trio has warped and widened the framework of extreme metal with the muscle of post and jazz rock, shoegaze and art pop across two full lengths (2014's "De Verste Verte Is Hier" and 2017's "Ons Vrije Fatum", which became record of the month in Terrorizer magazine upon its release) plus a split EP. Now with their third album "Het Wassen Oog" and its companion EP "Stadsluik", the band brings its cineastic qualities to full effect.

The genre-benders' new material sounds like a film noir by legendary Russian director Andrey Tarkovsky would look like - expressionistic, urgent and restrained at the same time, with long glimpses into dim corners, which could well be those of the human psyche. This eclecticism is not an end in itself but stems from sincere interest in various styles, resulting in a motley musical monochrome, if there could ever be such a thing.

The members simply name it "Obscure Dance Music", masking themselves to highlight their ever-changing artistic personae. With their current material, they poke fun at and question archetypical concepts like the "evil" or "all-seeing" eye while embracing the viciousness of black metal. Thus, Laster have come up with their most accessible music to date. "Het Wassen Oog" is available on CD and LP. The 2CD artbook edition features the extensive EP "Stadsluik" alongside liner notes and expanded layout.

The anonymous musicians from Utrecht, the Netherlands, moved way beyond their black metal roots without ever cutting them, meandering like a river through haunted landscapes. Transcending styles such as post punk and shoegaze, this "well-executed piece of work that is unashamedly bizarre" (Angry Metal Guy) became album of the month in Terrorizer and is re-issued as a 2CD Digipak paired with the 18-minute track 'Vederlicht Verraad' from the group's rare 2016 split.
