Once, Eïs were Geïst. Under the latter name, the band from Bielefeld released three highly-praised albums full of atmospheric Black Metal from 2005 to 2009: the furious and despondent "Patina," the melancholic and autumnal "Kainsmal," and the epic "Galeere" characterised by maritime motifs. Since 2010, the group has a new name and consolidates its status as a firm institution of the German Black Metal scene by numerous live performances. Mastermind Alboin has this to say on the band's quintessence: "Since our first album, we have been addressing the moral decline of man as something we decry and regret, something we try to describe and counteract with our lyrics. This I would consider as the credo of Eïs."
